BOXES, ALL MADE OUT OF TICKY-TACKY
And so another ordinary day had begun. Una went to the ticky-tacky drawer and brought out the day's ticky-tacky to work on. Luckily, she'd written 'Tuesday' on the ticky-tacky so she knew what she had to do.
Typhus thought it was Thursday.
This is one of the large display boxes in 'progress...' Launch in May.

MILESTONES JAZZ CLUB - APRIL GIG - HORN FACTORY
18-PIECE BIG BAND RETURN TO
MILESTONES JAZZ CLUB
This month’s concert at Milestones Jazz Club on Sunday 3 April features a return performance by one of the region’s finest big bands, Horn Factory, playing dynamic music in an intimate setting that is all too rare.
Horn Factory was initiated by former National Youth Jazz Orchestra saxophonist Gilly Burgoyne in 1998 and is made up of eighteen of the finest jazz musicians from the region with proceedings being led from the front by percussionist and musical director Bob Airzee.
The bands varied repertoire reflects the rich history of big band jazz - classic arrangements from Count Basie, Stan Kenton and Buddy Rich to contemporary material by Pat Metheny and Michel Camilo and is performed with the attack that only a big band can muster.
Over the last few years Horn Factory have honed their skills, making numerous appearances at theatres, festivals, jazz clubs and several performances at Snape Maltings.
Since the band last performed at Milestones in 2009 there have been many requests for their return, making a packed room and exciting atmosphere guaranteed for this concert.
Horn Factory’s 18-strong unit features 5 saxophones, 5 trumpets, 4 trombones and a 4-piece rhythm section.
The power of a jazz orchestra in full flight on record or television is impressive but to experience it live, and in an intimate venue like Milestones, is exhilarating and not to be missed!
Listen to Horn Factory’s music by visiting The Horn Factory or via the club website at http://www.milestonesjazzclub.co.uk/
All Milestones gigs are held on the first Sunday of every month and take place at Hotel Hatfield, Esplanade, Lowestoft with the doors opening at 8pm.
Admission - £7 / £6 (concession).
NB Milestones Jazz Club takes place in a basement room that requires the use of stairs. If you have a disability please contact milestonesjazz@hotmail.co.uk or (01502) 568684 for more info and help in entering the building.
If you need to reply to this message or any others from 'Milestones' then please contact milestonesjazz@hotmail.co.uk

BODIES BOXED

Although I use a lot of recycled objects, together with papers and fabrics, in essence my boxes are not just assemblages. For example, this 'found' object (part of a strange little doll) is accompanied by a gouache (lid) and a monoprint (box) by myself. And, obviously, the texts are mine - most of the time! Thereby, each is an entirely original box.
Of course, nothing is entirely original. Indeed, to be original the work has to reference its sources and influences. That is, I am ever indebted to Lisa D'Onofrio and the InPrint artists and poets group, who pioneered the 'Poetry Vending Machine' - a project I was involved in for over three years.
This work also references the Mail Art and postcard art movement, which pre-dates the internet digital aged - successful attempts to democratise art, to widen the audience and participation.

SOAP BOX
All the signs were, it was going to be a fine day. A day to go to the races and have a flutter. Oh dear, it was however Monday and Monday is wash day.
As soon as Soapy got to work in the tub Prucilla's heart lightened. Indeed, time just washed itself away as Prucilla and Soapy exchanged wash day jokes.

SOME BOXES ARE IMPOSSIBLE TO EXPLAIN
Wearing a hat might help Daisy fit in but some things are impossible to explain. All I can tell you is that The Bathing Club had recently placed an advert in the Yarmouth Mercury, giving away a dozen free tickets to join the club for a year.
'Out of The Machine' Boxes by Rupert Mallin will be launched in May.

PUT KETTLE ON: TRANSPARENT HANDCUFFS ISSUED
Feeling boxed in? Well, there's going to be more transparency. These new 'transparent' handcuffs have just been issued for friendly and democratic policing. Nicely topped with a small bouquet of flowers, "kettle" will remind us all of a nice cuppa and biscuits at the station...

NOT BOXED IN
Whatever his ambition, it would be fulfilled. His birthing silver spoon, those glasses and a childhood of training in calligraphy might allow him to rule the world...
Art & text in boxes production going well for the launch in May. Getting up to producing 50 a week.
This is a work in progress and is not necessarily the accompanying text!

HOSPITALS & ALMS HOUSES, NORWICH

Some of the real delights of Norwich are the hidden historic buildings which underpin the attraction of the city. Close to Anglia Square is Doughty's Hospital founded in 1687 and still used today as supported almshouses.

JED'S SHED - BOXES & BOXES
Black Tom has been spraying Cowboy Jed's blooms again.
Jed reaches for his gun but he's left it on the lavatory door hook. Does Jed apply his saddle sore psychology and try and understand the cat or strangle it? Whatever which way, the Norfolk County Horticultural Society wouldn't allow "cat pissed blooms" into the tent.

BOXES & MORE BOXES
To accompany the pocket boxes I'm creating, I'm also putting together much larger display boxes, like this one. They too are accompanied by texts (I'll let you guess what's going on here). This box is about 9 inches square.
'Out Of The Machine' will be launched in May.
Not only will there be art and poetry boxes, there will also be limited edition packs of DIY Art & Poetry.
The launch will roll out during Norfolk Open Studios, May 20 to June 5.
